Volume Is Queen

Summary

Was it fast-paced? Absolutely. Was it chaotic? At times. Was it a bonding experience? 100%. Did it take hyper-focus, agility, and ingenuity? Sure did. How about a mind for organization? Please!

There are 40 product images on this page. In my 5+ years at Party City, the Production Team created 84,000 images and wrote 63,000 product descriptions. I orchestrated the operation.

Planning and collaboration built the foundation on which we worked. We were a tight group, and figured out our rhythm. We executed, and celebrated, at scale.

Challenges

  • Vendors who were slow passing us images causing stragglers in large projects.

  • Insufficient product information that made it difficult to write copy.

  • High merchant turnover / new merchants who had to learn our detailed process for submitting projects.

  • Lack of enterprise-wide project management tool like Asana or Monday.

  • Daily surprise requests that pulled us off our schedule.

  • Year-over-year reduction in staff. In 2019, I started with a crew of 10. By 2024, we were four.

  • Maintaining morale when schedules got tight and we had to grind.

Outcomes

  • 84,000 pieces of content uploaded to the site over my tenure!

  • 30% increase in conversion rates for product that had fully optimized PDPs after setting requirements that each had to have three to six images showcasing, at minimum, dimensions and details. Inspirational photography and video shot by our in-house studio were wonderful additions when we could get them.

  • Despite the volume, mistakes that were reported were 99.9% caused by inaccuracies in our work orders, usually at the vendor touchpoint.
