Piñata Kits: Kiddie Candy Dilemma

Summary

On the face of it, this project was quite easy: build out 50 new piñata kits in a couple of days per the CEO’s request. But a roadblock lurked…

Challenges

  • On Day 2 during my QA, I noticed that the image for the Kiddie Candy did not match the product description — the piece count and weight were off. I queried the merchant to confirm which was incorrect. The copy was correct; the image was outdated.

  • The vendor could not supply the correct image until the end of the month.

  • Per system requirements for new SKUs, we had to upload the final images by our daily 2:45pm PST deadline in order for them to launch live the next day.

Outcomes

  • I created placeholder files with the correct file names and uploaded them prior to the 2:45pm deadline.

  • I checked online to see which stores in my area had the candy in stock and I picked up a bag. I photographed it at home and sent the file to my production artist, who quickly cleaned it up and dropped it into his kit images.

  • After a second QA, I approved final file upload in the late afternoon. After they were ingested, I manually purged each one to ensure that the placeholders were overwritten.

  • The kits went live on time the next day showing the correct product images.
