Judge a Series by Its Covers.

Summary

The image for the Intro cover was perfect. How to find two others as fitting for Levels 1 and 2?

Challenges

  • After researching and finding the perfect cover for the Intro level, we could not agree on images for the Level 1 and Level 2 books. The deadline was fast approaching, and we had to send the books off to the printer.

  • I suggested the concept of retaining the bottom half of the image of the desk and book from the Intro level and replacing the ocean scene with a rural scene for Level 1 and an urban scene for Level 2. Marketing approved this concept.

  • I negotiated permission and a new license with the stock photography agency to include editing rights for Levels 1 and 2.

  • To save on budget, I photographed midtown Manhattan from the 17th floor of our office in Tribeca.

Outcomes

  • All three books published on time and on budget with three literary covers befitting the topic of the series.
