Judge a Series by Its Covers.
Summary
The image for the Intro cover was perfect. How to find two others as fitting for Levels 1 and 2?
Challenges
After researching and finding the perfect cover for the Intro level, we could not agree on images for the Level 1 and Level 2 books. The deadline was fast approaching, and we had to send the books off to the printer.
I suggested the concept of retaining the bottom half of the image of the desk and book from the Intro level and replacing the ocean scene with a rural scene for Level 1 and an urban scene for Level 2. Marketing approved this concept.
I negotiated permission and a new license with the stock photography agency to include editing rights for Levels 1 and 2.
To save on budget, I photographed midtown Manhattan from the 17th floor of our office in Tribeca.
Outcomes
All three books published on time and on budget with three literary covers befitting the topic of the series.
